Ikea videos made with super high-speed cameras

These ads are incredible, they open with a Shuan Of The Dead type sequence and then switch to a super slow motion video (shot with high speed cameras). You can use your mouse to change angles within the video.

Ikea website with the ads

Deutsch Inc., handles Ikea’s US account but I’m trying to figure out who made the ads.

Apple Mac Air

Apple Macbook Air

When the original Imac’s were introduced they were criticized for not including a floppy drive. I assume Apple believes the future is away from optical media. Unfortunately right now, the Mac Air cannot play DVD’s, and with Apple keeping tight control of Fairplay, you need a PC to watch streaming movies from sites like Amazon Unbox and Netflix Watch It Now.
I will certainly give Apple credit in one area though, their machines are beautiful from all directions. Why do PC laptops have to have stickers all over them?

HD DVD Dead?

Respond

Interesting article about HD DVD’s decline over at Crave. I’ve always thought Blue Ray was a better name for a next generation format. HD DVD has to many syllables.

With most of the major studios pulling their support, What is the future of HD DVD? DAT survived as a pro recording format even though it didn’t succeed as a consumer format. Could HD DVD survive as a recordable pro/prosumer HD format?

Permanently Erase Files

January 21st, 2008 by The Editor
Respond

Did you know that under most circumstances, deleting a file in Windows doesn’t actually remove its contents? In reality, you are only deleting the references to that file in the file system. If you’re running with the Recycling Bin active (default), deleting a file simply moves it to special hidden folder. So what happens if you want to permanently delete a file so that it is truly erased from your hard drive? [Read more →]

Apple Faces Challenges In Europe

January 21st, 2008 by The Editor
Respond

Eric Pfanner at The New York Times has an article about the hurdles that Apple is facing in its plan to provide movie rentals in Europe. It sounds like that while many aspects of commercial activity have been opened up in the E.U., copyright is still being zealously defended by individual countries. Also, Eric points out the country by country distribution and control of content by various entities is an additional barrier.
