Eric Pfanner at The New York Times has an article about the hurdles that Apple is facing in its plan to provide movie rentals in Europe. It sounds like that while many aspects of commercial activity have been opened up in the E.U., copyright is still being zealously defended by individual countries. Also, Eric points out the country by country distribution and control of content by various entities is an additional barrier.
